Kent Athletics Development & Education Programme - Day 2

Camber Sands - November 26th 2011 - 10am to 1pm.

The venue for the second development day will be Camber Sands and will focus on conditioning with Steve Green.  Steve's profile can be seen on the day 1 tab.

We are fortunate to have access to the Marina Cafe during our time in Camber but will not have exclusive use.  Members of the public will also be using the main cafe area so your utmost respect for the facility would be most welcome.  In addition to access to the main cafe area we have a heated room with wash facilities and a shower.  The room is small but can house a small group of athletes to warm, change and debrief and be used to store kit during training. A link and map can be found in the top right hand corner of the page.

All athletes and coaches will be provided with two vouchers one for a hot drink and one for soup & bread that the Network will carry the cost for.  Any additional foods bought at Marina Cafe will need to be paid for on an individual basis.  Food and drink vouchers are obtainable from Mark Dayson.

The day will start at 10am so please arrive in good time to register.  Please ensure you bring adequate change of warm clothing and a towel as it is expected to be cold. Athletes will not be allowed into the sea unless explicitly given permission by their respective coaches during the 10-1pm session.

Format for the day is as follows:

0930-10 10-11 11-12 12-1300
THROWS REGISTRATION CONDITIONING COACHING COACHING
SPRINTS REGISTRATION CONDITIONING COACHING COACHING
JUMPS REGISTRATION COACHING CONDITIONING COACHING
ENDURANCE REGISTRATION COACHING COACHING CONDITIONING

Steve Green will be using the surrounding and environment in his conditioning session including the sand dunes.  The coaching sessions will as usual be led by the lead coaches for each event group.  All areas to be used will be cleared by inspection prior to commencment of training by the coaches.

Coaches are welcome to attend at no cost.  If athletes invited would like to attend but did not do so on the first day please notify in advance as this allows us to plan for costings and organisation of event groups.

Any questions please contact Mark Dayson.

Thank you to all athletes and coaches who attended the Camber development day.  A fantastic days training with lots of positive feedback from all concerned including the Marina Cafe who hosted the training day which we are most appreciative of.  Just a taster of feedback and photos below, more photos and videos will be uploaded shortly to a gallery and a link will be provided.

Many thanks to all once again and I look forward to seeing you all on February 18th at Sevenoaks School.

 Athlete feedback:

  • I enjoyed running up the sand dunes and also running on the sand because I have never run on the sand before and it was a hard challenge.

  • I felt I got a lot out of this session. I really enjoyed doing the strength and conditioning and the dune running.

  • I really enjoyed today’s session especially the conditioning exercises.  I feel I have benefited a lot from it. Thanks.

  • I loved today, I’ve learnt a lot and would love to come again.

  • It was very hard but a very good session.  It was hard to run on sand because I never have before.

  • I enjoyed the hurdle work-basic but effective. Maybe more breaks or time to relax without the wind.

  • I enjoyed doing something different to training on the track.  Learnt the importance of doing exercises backwards.

  • Very tough and challenging day but very enjoyable too.  Also was nice to have a change of surface which made it more interesting.

  • Want to see Dell suffer more!  Enjoyed doing something different than training on the track.  Tell the weather man to make it less windy please!

  • Good day.  The session was tough without it being too hard.  It was nice to make use of the sand.  Overall a very good day.

  • Today was good, it was hard but good fun.

  • Today was enjoyable because we did many different activities, but it was very hard work!

  • Enjoyed, thought that warm up should be slightly more focused-very arm upper body orientated for a sprint group.  Loss of dignity when showed up by Ian.

  • Was a good session.  Recommend bringing sunglasses.  Warm up should have been more specific.

  • I enjoyed going in the warm room!  They should provide cushions for the core work-less wind-less sand!
